The new requirements for spouses - the date has been announced

 

The minister of state for immigration has announced the date when the new requirement of English language would be introduced for the partners / spouses / fiancés of British Citizens or of those who are settled in the UK.

1.    Date:

From 29th of Nov. 2010, all applicants applying either from inside the UK or from outside will be required to provide evidence of their ability to communicate in English language by providing evidence of their nationality from an majority English speaking country or passing an English language test from the approved list of the UKBA.

2.    Who will be affected?

Following applicants will be affected:

  • Spouses of British Citizens or persons having settled status in the UK
  • Civil Partners of British Citizens or persons having settled status in the UK
  • Unmarried Partners of British Citizens or persons having settled status in the UK
  • Fiance` or Fiancee` of British Citizens or persons having settled status in the UK

3.    Who will not be affected?

This new rule will not affect spouses / civil partners / unmarried partners of those persons who have got limited leave to remain or of EEA nationals.

4.    Level of English Language

The applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the acquired the A1 level of English language i.e. 4.0 in IELTS.

It is therefore strongly advised to make any such applications before this deadline, in order to avoid taking any English language tests.
