News for EEA nationals

Limited appointments will become available later in May 2011 for a premium service in respect of EEA 2, 3 and 4 applications only at the Liverpool Public Enquiry Office. There is no charge for EEA applications in respect of the postal service but there will be a charge for this premium service, although the UK Border Agency has not yet stated what the charge will be. This premium service will be in addition to the existing postal service.

EEA 1 applications, free of charge, can also be dealt with at the Liverpool Public Enquiry Office but only if submitted with an associated EEA 2 or 4 charged application.

EEA 1 applications will continue to be processed by appointment at Croydon Public Enquiry Office. Only limited numbers of appointments are available for this, but you will not have to pay a fee.

EEA1 applications are for registration certificates for EEA nationals exercising Treaty Rights in the UK and their included EEA or Swiss family members (or Swiss nationals residing in the UK and their EEA or Swiss family members). A registration certificate confirms the person’s right of residence under European law as at the date of issue.

EEA 2 applications are for a residence card certifying a right of residence in the UK for the non-European Economic Area national family members of an EEA national exercising Treaty Rights in the UK or a Swiss national residing in the UK.

EEA 3 applications are for a document certifying permanent residence for EEA nationals exercising Treaty Rights in the UK and their included EEA or Swiss family members (or Swiss nationals residing in the UK and their EEA or Swiss family members).

EEA 4 applications are for a permanent residence card if you are a non-European Economic Area or non-Swiss national family member of an EEA or Swiss national.
